TactoTek, a leader in In-Mold Structural Electronics (IMSE) technology, has joined forces with Industrias Alegre in Spain to revolutionize 3D integrated electronics for the automotive and other high-demand industries. This collaboration aims to develop highly integrated user interfaces (HMI) that incorporate lighting, decorative elements, and tactile functionalities for future automotive applications.

The IMSE technology developed by TactoTek offers a novel approach to vehicle interiors, providing a more sustainable and lightweight solution. By embedding or over-injecting electronics, any surface can be transformed into a tactile interaction element, as electronic components are seamlessly integrated into thin structures within plastic parts. This allows for advanced functions such as lighting and man-machine interfaces to be elegantly incorporated into the vehicle design without the need for bulky switches or mechanical elements.

Electric car manufacturer Polestar, affiliated with Volvo Cars, has already embraced the IMSE technology in its designs, showcasing the practicality and innovation of this approach. TactoTek has established a design center in Munich to collaborate with leading German car manufacturers, further expanding the reach of IMSE technology in the automotive industry.

Industrias Alegre embarked on exploring this cutting-edge technology three years ago, starting with a research project that evolved into practical tests and the development of a demonstrator within its production facility. The recent partnership with TactoTek signifies Industrias Alegre's expertise in injecting parts with integrated electronics, positioning the company at the forefront of technological advancements in plastic manufacturing.

Monica Alegre, the commercial director of Industrias Alegre in Valencia, emphasizes the strategic importance of adopting IMSE technology, stating that it enables the company to anticipate the evolving needs of major automotive manufacturers. Beyond visual enhancements, the technology offers sustainability benefits by reducing raw materials, streamlining assemblies, simplifying parts, and optimizing supply chains. TactoTek's SVP Automotive Sales, Thomas Vetter, highlights the potential of IMSE technology to significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions associated with specific parts, making it an environmentally conscious choice for manufacturers.
